Portrait Mode.

Before you start photographing your babes put your iPhone on portrait mode. This will give you the ever coveted effect of a blurry background, making them look more "pro". To do this, open your camera app, check out the bottom where you can switch between settings and move it from "camera" to "portrait". Put your child in the view finder and start snapping away. If your pics are not coming out clearly make sure your kiddo is within the right amount of distance which will be indicated at the top.

Play. Explore.

Children are most beautiful in their natural state of play. I always love photographing children because you don't ever have to pose them and they come up with better poses than adults! To start photographing you child, start by playing with them. Have them run around and do what they do best. When they're done playing, help them explore by introducing them to something in their surroundings that will photograph well - then have them check it out. Flowers and foliage work beautifully!

Straighten Out Your Background.

Check out the horizon in your view finder before snapping a photo. If the horizon is diagonal, straighten out your phone so it's not tilted to one side or the other. This is a simple but subtle detail that can increase your photo's beauty quickly and simply. Quick and simple is how we always want to approach shoots with kids to keep them happy and moving.

Reward Afterwards.

Kiddos can get a bit fussy after about thirty minutes or an hour of having a camera pointed at them so when you want to get a few more shot in, remind them of the fun reward you have planned afterwards. This could be visiting grandma, going out for ice cream, going swimming or even to play at their friend's house. Get creative momma!
